College Wardrobe Essentials

Okay ladies, who here loves clothes? I do! Clothes are great in my opinion and I love the new trends that are always circulating since it adds something new to the world of fashion! However, no matter how many times crop tops are in and out or high waisted shorts are the new trendiest item, there are some clothes in your wardrobe that you should always have because they are something that you will always use! Wanna know more? Keep reading!

1. A Little Black Dress
A LBD should always be in your wardrobe. The best thing about owning one is that it can be dressed up or dressed down. You can pull it out for fancy occasions or wear it on a date and look and feel awesome. Not only that but a LBD is so versatile and timeless, you'll get amazing use out of it. What's even better is that stores like Forever 21 and H&M sell LBDs for affordable prices so even college girls can get one they love!

2. Cardigans
I personally don't own many cardigans, but the ones I do own are amazing! In school, different rooms equal different temperatures to me. I get cold extremely easily but hot just as quick. Cardigans are great because you can wear a cute tank top but can throw something over it if you're cold or just take it off if you're warm. They also are great to throw on if you're going to something a little more conservative (like an old church) but don't want to cover up that cute new strapless dress you just got. Cardigans will save you and your outfit in so many situations so I suggest at least getting a neutral color.

3. White Dress Shirt
White dress shirts should be in your wardrobe forever! They're very basic but can be worn so many ways. You can roll up the sleeves and add a skater skirt with some ballet flats and you've got an adorable outfit you can wear to class! But roll down the sleeves, add a pencil skirt with some pumps and you're ready to do that presentation at 8am after five hours of sleep! The point I'm trying to make is that white dress shirts are so versatile that you'll always need one. I suggest getting a reasonably priced one to gauge how much you use it. If you use it more often than not, I would suggest getting a nicer one. An upgrade might cost a bit more money, but if you use it a lot I assure you it will be well worth it.

4. Comfortable Shoes
These can range from some good tennis shoes to ballet flats to sandals. Whatever you're most comfortable in is what you should consider buying. At college you're most likely going to be walking everywhere and that's going to take a toll on your feet. Sooner or later your feet are going to hurt like crazy and you're just going to want to go barefoot. Having comfortable shoes will make the walking a bit easier and if they're cute, you'll want to wear them all the time! Some shoes that I think are great for being on my feet all day are: Toms, Bobs, Vans, City Sneaks Shoes and Ballet Flats of any kind. Some are pricier than others but you won't even think about that when you're gliding across campus comfortably in your cute shoes.

5. Dark Wash Jeans
Dark wash jeans can be found in most every clothing store and in every cut. From skinny to flare, dark wash jeans will always be in. They make your body look great because of the wash and you'll feel just as great wearing them. They can also be dressed up or dressed down and the darker the wash, the more professional you look! Of course, this shouldn't be a replacement for professional attire, but it's something that will not only make you look good, but feel good too.

6. Blazer
Blazers come in all shapes, sizes and colors. The one you should have in your closet is a black, long-sleeved blazer since it is the universal blazer color and style. Throw this on over a nice blouse, add some heels and dress pants and you have yourself a power outfit! Blazers don't only have to be used for professional events but they can be worn as a light jacket. This will not only look nice and clean cut, but very put together as well. And who doesn't like to slip on an article of clothing and look like you spent hours getting ready?

7. Leggings
We all have those days when we just roll out of bed and don't feel like getting dressed. Well, when styled properly, leggings can make your outfit look amazing and while people compliment you on your style, you compliment yourself on how comfy you are. Not only that, but they can make your butt look great too! So just forget everyone who said you couldn't wear leggings because you can!

8. Black Heels
Two words: Power Shoes. Black heels are staple in any woman's wardrobe and can add the confidence you need. Just put them on and you'll instantly feel more powerful and confident and ready to take on your day. A great thing about black heels is that they come in different heel heights, heel thickness and styles. You can get a one inch, skinny heel just as easily as a thick platform heel and they're super affordable! I have a pair from Payless which I got for $25 and I absolutely love them!

9. Casual Dresses
Dresses are great for those days when pants aren't an option you're considering. I know that sometimes pants are not even on my mind when I'm getting dressed. Why? Because pants can be constricting. When I roll out of bed after a long night of studying, the last thing I want do is go into my closet and pull my jeans out. So for those days when you don't want to try but want to look like you did try, dresses are the way to go. Think about it, it's one piece of clothing, it goes over your head and there are so many different styles, you could basically wear a causal dress everyday if you wanted to! Who wouldn't love that?

10. A Jacket
Having a good, sturdy jacket is crucial for a few reasons. The first being that the seasons will change and some days it will feel like you're at the north pole in the morning, but in the desert by the afternoon. Jackets are great because you can throw them on and take them off. They're a lot like cardigans but the difference is, is that jackets are made to protect you against the elements. If there's a lot of wind, a jacket will protect you better than any cardigan ever will. All you have to do is find a jacket you love, get it, then wear it! It's easy as one, two, three!

I hope you all now have a better idea as to some essentials you should have to your wardrobe. Now depending on where you'll be attending college, some items won't apply to you and some you might want/need might not be on this list. Just go with your instinct and you'll be ready to take on your campus!

All the best! - Becca
