What to Do During Hot Summer Days!

Hey Everyone!
Well, I don't know about you, but summer is in full swing where I am right now! It is extremely hot and I'm not exactly a fan of ninety degree weather, so I like to do a lot of stuff indoors. Now, there are the usual things like seeing movies such as 22 Jump Street (R), Jersey Boys(R) or Maleficent (PG) but let's be honest, movies are expensive! Not to mention most anything you want to do indoors that's somewhere other than your own home will cost money. We're about to be college students so we shouldn't be wise about our spending habits? Here is a list of things that I like to do during the hot days that cost hardly anything!

1. DIY Day
Have a do it yourself day! Yeah I know, I know... Do it yourself? Seriously? Yes! I am one hundred percent serious! There are tons of DIYs out there (a lot can be found on YouTube) that are actually pretty cool and manyof them you can make for your dorm room. These range from a classy tiered jewelry stand (which I personally love) to a cute inspiration board you can hang in your room. Now, the basic materials for these DIYs are relatively cheap. What will cost you money is the hot glue gun and glue sticks and other materials like that.

2. Netflix
Yes. Netflix is on here. Why? Because you can start or catch up on so many shows all from the comfort of your couch or bed. Netflix is way cheaper than going to the movies because you can watch as many movies as you want for a good monthly price. There are tons of shows on Netflix that I personally love. If you want to check out a few shows on Netflix then here are my personal favorites.

Comedy
1. How I Met Your Mother (Seasons 1-8) Rating: TV-PG
2. Archer (Seasons 1-4) Rating: TV-MA
3. New Girl (Seasons 1-2) Rating: TV-14

Drama
1. House of Cards (Seasons 1-2) Rating: TV-MA
2. Orange is the New Black (Seasons 1-2) Rating: TV-MA
3. Lost (Seasons 1-6) Rating: TV-14

Fantasy/Sci-Fi
1. Once Upon a Time (Seasons 1-2) Rating: TV-PG
2. The Vampire Diaries (Seasons 1-4) Rating: TV-14
3. Supernatural (Seasons 1-8) Rating: TV-14

3. Board Games
Remember all of those games you used to play before Candy Crush and 2048 were on your phone or tablet? Yeah, they're still pretty fun! You probably have these games in your homes somewhere for when you need to pass the time during a power outage. Well, you don't have to use them only when you don't have access to wifi or your phone is on 5% battery left.  Games like Monopoly, Sorry, Scrabble or Jenga are all fun to play. Plus, since you already have them, you're paying nothing to have fun!

4. Read a Book
Who doesn't love a good book? With so many novels out there from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green to the Divergent Series by Veronica Roth you can be taken anywhere! That's the beauty of books! You can live any story, anywhere in time and space and get to be somewhere else for a period of time. This is a great idea for the average college student because you're getting some reading in before school and if you get your book from the library, it's free. Why wouldn't you read a book on a hot day?

5. Organize Everything
Okay, maybe not everything but you know what I mean :). Is your room a mess since it's summer and you're just throwing your stuff on the floor? Do you not know where your hairbrush is in your bathroom since all of your make-up is on the counter? What about your wallet? Is it clean? Same goes for your purse, do you really know what's in it? Well if you're anything like me, it's probably not. I'm so unorganized it's like you could lose anything in my room but at the same time, I'm a very organized person so it's a bit ironic, isn't it? Well, on one of those days where you wouldn't leave your wonderful air conditioned house for most anything, why not organize it and clean it up a bit? You may not want to see what is lurking a the bottom of your purse but hey, it's easy and will help you in the long run. Not only that but you will feel a lot better once your space is uncluttered. It sounds weird I know, but there's something oddly liberating about cleaning your room and organizing everything.

Well I hope you guys can beat the heat with these tips this summer. There are a million other ways to have fun or be productive without spending a boatload of money, you just have to find them! Hope you like my ideas and leave a comment down below on what you do to keep yourself occupied!

All the best! -Becca

College Shopping and Student Discounts

July has started! Oh wow, I can't believe it! AP Scores are being sent out now as we speak (depending on where you live) and summer is here! I hope you all had a great holiday and are enjoying your weekend! I was just going over all the items I needed to start school off right, and realized there's A LOT of stuff I need. From microwaves to new clothes it's going to get pretty pricey. With the actual cost of going to college being monumental I couldn't believe that these extra expenses were going to be added on. So me, being the frugal person I am, did some research and found that a lot of stores and websites offer student discounts. Of course, you'll need to present your student ID so make sure you always have it on you! Here's a list of stores that offer discounts:

  1. Academic Superstore
